HOUSEBUILDER SERVES UP DONATION FOR CHILDREN’S TENNIS CLUB
Kilmarnock tennis club has netted the support of a local housebuilder to help fund work to secure its premises.
Persimmon Homes West Scotland has awarded Kilmarnock Tennis Club £1,000 as part of its Community Champions scheme.
The club has 140 members, over half of which are juniors. The juniors take part in coaching sessions on a Saturday morning and special team challenge events that gently introduce the youngsters into fun competition and team events across Ayrshire.
In April this year one of the tennis courts was vandalised leaving the net and playing surface burnt after the vandals set it alight. The incident cost the club £756 to repair the damage but also highlighted the increasing need for additional security and fencing around the club perimeter.
Elaine Semple, a Committee member at Kilmarnock Tennis Club, said: “We are delighted to be chosen to receive funding from Persimmon Homes and can’t thank them enough for their support.”
“Health and safety is of paramount importance at a club that caters primarily for children. We have worked hard over the years to raise funds for the new fencing through bag packing events and coffee mornings, but we also need and welcome help from local businesses.”
“I recently moved into a Persimmons home at Strathlea Crescent, Kilmarnock and thought I would approach them for support. It means such a lot to us all at Kilmarnock Tennis Club to receive this funding. It will be used to put towards the next phase of the new perimeter fencing.”
The Persimmon Homes Community Champions initiative invites groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise money themselves to apply for match-funding of up to £1,000 by completing an online form available via the Persimmon Homes website.
Doug Law, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “Kilmarnock Tennis Club provides a valuable resource for future generations in the community and we are proud to support them.”
“With new talent coming through the ranks at Wimbledon this year it is clear that investment in clubs such as this one has the potential to change lives while also keeping its young members fit and healthy.”
Persimmon Homes West Scotland is currently building a wide range of new homes at the Annick Grange development in Irvine and The Pastures in Stewarton.
