Local primary school names new housing development in Bannerdale
Local primary school, Carterknowle Junior School, has named Barratt Homes’ new development in Bannerdale. Each class submitted an idea for the name, with class Y6HD being crowned champions by inspiring the winner, ‘Elderwood.’
The housebuilder called on children at the school to take part in the naming competition, encouraging pupils to consider the history of the area to help guide them. The class researched which trees grew locally, inspiring them to come up with the name ‘Elderwood’ as their entry.
To celebrate the announcement of the winning name, Debbie Land, Sales Adviser at Barratt Homes, visited the school to award class Y6HD with a special certificate to mark their achievement.
Carterknowle Junior School commented: “We were delighted when Barratt Homes asked us to help name the new development nearby in Bannerdale. Asking the children to think of a name inspired by our local area was a great project and we had lots of fun researching. Class Y6HD chose Elderwood because of the soft yet appealing natural ring to it. It is very exciting that the children will now have a place in the history, and a hand in the future, of the area.”
Sam Wood, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Yorkshire West, said: “There were so many wonderful entries to choose from for our new Bannerdale site so our decision wasn’t an easy one. We decided that Elderwood, submitted by class Y6HD, would be a great fit for the area. We are extremely excited to see the development begin and to create happy homes for many future residents.”
Elderwood will be the name for Barratt Homes’ new offering in Bannerdale, consisting of 54 homes. Properties will be available for purchase in early 2019.
