Running club receives £1,000 cash boost
A Berkeley running club has won the race to be named one of a regional builder’s community champions – netting itself £1,000 funding boost.
Persimmon Homes Severn Valley will hand over a cheque to the New Berkeley harriers to go towards running costs of the club.
Each month the builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across the region. This also happens across Persimmon’s other 29 operating areas, meaning up to £60,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £720,000 a year, and more than £2million since the scheme started back in 2015.
Ian Cole, spokesman for New Berkeley Harriers, said: “We are delighted that Persimmon Homes has chosen us as a Community Champion. The money is gratefully received and will go towards the running costs of the club, as well as qualifications to enable safe and developmental progression for our members.
“We are a fairly new club and have grown from just a few members to more than 35 now, with a range of abilities, from beginners to marathon runners. We encourage everyone to have a go, and have several youths joining the club, enjoying fitness and the leisure benefits of running.
“It is refreshing to see a big company like Persimmon Homes getting involved in the community like this. We’re very grateful for the kind donation.”
Persimmon Homes Severn Valley have a new site in Berkeley, called Canonbury Rise, located off Canonbury Street, which is currently being marketed from Hunters Estate Agents in Dursley. The development will provide a range of much-needed housing to the area, with two, three, four and five-bedroom homes available. To find out more, visit: www.persimmonhomes.com.
Carly Spear, head or sales at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “We are delighted to hand over this money to the New Berkeley Harriers. “We are committed to supporting the groups and people who make a difference in their communities. It is part of us sharing our success and giving something back to the areas in which we build.”
