Housebuilder’s donation helps one good cause to help another

An amateur cricket club has been given a cash donation by a regional builder which will help boost the club’s charity of the year fundraising target.

Retford Cricket Club received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Nottingham through its monthly Community Champions scheme.

The builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across the region through its match-funding initiative.

The 160-year-old cricket club choose Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, in North Anston, as its nominated charity this year and is aiming to raise around £3,000 for the hospice through various fundraising events.

Neil Wilson from Retford Cricket Club said: “We are delighted that Persimmon Homes has chosen to support us.

“We are a family orientated club run entirely by volunteers and have been proudly providing cricket expertise to all ages for many years.

“Although we have to raise funds for ourselves we also feel, as a longstanding club, that it’s important we contribute to the community in other ways than just cricket.

“The Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice requires over £4million a year to keep its doors open and it only receive a small percentage of funding from the government. Therefore, the club decided the Hospice was the perfect choice for a chosen charity for 2018.

“The majority of Persimmon’s donation with go to the hospice with a little going towards our own running costs. We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes.”

Neil Follows, managing director at Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting good causes and we were very touched by Retford’s Cricket selfless actions to support another good cause.

“Every month we give donations to community groups across Nottingham, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.

“If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again this year and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
