FUNDING BOOST FOR BRADFORD AND HAWORTH-BASED CAUSES

Two West Yorkshire causes have each scooped much-needed funding from a leading housebuilder, demonstrating the breadth of community organisations being supported.

Amazing Grace, in Bradford and Haworth Riding for the Disabled Group are the latest recipients of Community Champions awards from Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, each receiving £1,000 towards their causes.

The national match-funding scheme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment across the region.

Amazing Grace runs three luncheon groups each week in the Bradford area for the over 50s. The Persimmon donation will go toward replacing the group’s crockery and cutlery, which has become chipped and stained.

Haworth Riding for the Disabled Group, who provide people with physical and learning disabilities horse riding and stable management lessons, plans to use its donation to fund additional coaching hours on its mechanical horse simulator which supports individuals with more severe disabilities.

Simon Whalley, sales director for Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “There are so many different voluntary groups helping to make life better for local people it can often be difficult to choose our monthly recipients.”

Sandra Burgan, from Amazing Grace, added: “Our tea service is a mix of different sets as it’s become chipped and broken from over use. A complete new set will help make our luncheons even more special.”

Whereas, Jane Lawrence from Haworth Riding for the Disabled Group, said: “Since introducing the horse simulator we have been able to introduce the benefits of horse riding and exercise to a much wider audience. The donation will enable us to increase our services even further. We are very grateful.”

Community groups, charities and good causes across the country have benefited thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form.

The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.

Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire is currently building in Bradford, Leeds, Wakefield, Pontefract and Barnsley.
