CASH BOOST FOR HARROGATE HOSPICE’S NEUROLOGICAL SERVICE
A Harrogate Hospice has received a cash donation from a regional housebuilder to help support its neurological community nurse service.
Saint Michael’s Hospice was awarded £1,000 after being chosen by Persimmon Homes Yorkshire as part of its Community Champions campaign.
The donation will go towards supporting the Hospice’s neurological community specialist nurse, who cares for adults diagnosed with terminal neurological diseases and their families.
This support helps patients retain a level of comfort, normality and choice, at a time when it can feel as though all of this has been taken away from them.
Tony Collins, chief executive at Saint Michael’s Hospice, said: “Our current three year plan sees us reach out to provide care to local people living with any terminal illness, including neurological conditions such as motor neurone disease and multiple system atrophy.
“As a charity that is more than 80 per cent funded by our community, the support of local and regional businesses such as Persimmon Homes Yorkshire enables us to continue to be there for even more local families living with terminal illness and bereavement.
“We thank Persimmon for this donation of £1,000, which will support our neurological community specialist nurse to offer advice and care to people affected by neurological conditions in the familiar surroundings of their own homes.”
Kevin Thubron, sales director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, added: “Harrogate is an integral part of our housebuilding strategy as work get underway by our sister brand Charles Church development, Harlow Hill Grange, so we were delighted to receive an application from Saint Michael’s Hospice.
“As their neurological community specialist nurse provides such a vital service within the Harrogate community we felt the hospice was a very deserving choice for our Community Champion award.”
