Cash donation helps London disability group

A disability sports charity who deliver Community Clubs in 11 London Boroughs has received a donation to help it provide a children’s holiday club for the next school year. Disability Sports Club received a £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes North London. The money was donated through the regional housebuilder’s monthly Community Champions scheme. Each month, the regional business donates up to £2,000 to community groups. Disability Sports Coach provides sport and physical activity opportunities that have a positive impact on disabled people’s lives. Since 2005, the group has coached more than 60,000 disabled people, while It’s 11 Community Clubs, based in Brent, Kensington & Chelsea, Hillingdon, Westminster, Islington, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Lambeth, Southwark, Sutton and Wandsworth, have more than 650 members. The charity launched a campaign to raise £6,000 so that it could provide sports provision for children with disabilities during all the holiday periods in the next school year. The holiday club will be held in Elephant and Castle and a donation was also received from the Elephant & Castle Community Fund. Fundraising Manager for Disability Sports Coach, Alison Morgan said: “We launched our campaign to provide a holiday club as currently there is little provision for them to access activities outside school time. “We want disabled children and adults to have the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers to access sport and activity. However, many face different barriers when it comes to taking part in sport and physical activity. Our trained coaches will help to develop sporting ability as well as boost social skills and confidence.” Damian Seddon, director-in-charge at Persimmon Homes North London, said: “Disability Sports Coach clearly provides a much-needed service across London and has helped thousands of youngsters. We are delighted that we can support them in this way.”
