Staff go above and beyond with fundraising efforts

Care workers came together and walked to great lengths as part of a campaign to provide care home residents with the highest quality of life.

Dozens of staff from The Hica Group, a not for profit organisation which run 15 homes, domiciliary care and retirement villages, got together and completed a 10-mile sponsored walk, from Albemarle to Horrox Court and back again, raising over £1,500.

The Hica Group hosts the annual fund raiser to top up the organisation’s SHINE Fund, a collection of donations and fundraising efforts that go toward new technology and experiences for residents. Recent investments include VR headsets, MP3 players and virtual tours.

Participants of the sponsored walk celebrated the completion of the strenuous task, good weather and great company with a barbeque.

Previous food services manager Andy Cullum attended to man the barbeque. Stalls were also set up featuring tombolas, baked goods and activities for everyone to enjoy throughout the day.

Recently appointed learning and development manager Lisa Moody attended with her husband who works for Duchy Homes, which generously donated £500 to the cause.

Chief executive Penni Brown said: “I am always extremely proud of staff fundraising efforts. All efforts go toward to SHINE Fund, which enables us to provide new and exciting activities for our residents and ultimately a high quality of life.

“Even though the forecast was torrential rain, eager staff still turned up ready to complete the walk. Luckily the sun shone and we had a fantastic day. Events like this reflect that we’re one big family.”

The Hica Group supports older residents, those living with dementia and people with learning disabilities daily. SHINE funded activities and equipment have a central role in enhancing quality life quality. Improved mood and increased engagement are just some of the responses staff witness due to SHINE funded events.
