Regional programme launches enabling manufacturers to embrace new tech

Local manufacturers are being given the opportunity to explore emerging technology as regional hub, Digital Catapult Centre North East & Tees Valley (NETV), has launched a new digital manufacturing programme.

The programme was designed to ensure North East firms benefit from the predicted multi-billion pound boost, that digital transformation in manufacturing is expected to deliver.

Made up of four workshops and onsite one-to-one support, the programme will offer an introduction to a variety of new technologies, including artificial intelligence and virtual reality.

Naomi Morrow, lead for Digital Catapult Centre NETV, said: “Findings from the recent Made Smarter Review predict that digital transformation in manufacturing could see a multi-billion-pound boost to the economy.

“With the Digital Manufacturing Programme, we want to encourage manufacturers in the North East to consider the impact of adopting these technologies, sooner rather than later.

“We are passionate about future-proofing the largest sector in the region. By offering an in-depth support package to local manufacturers, we can support the sector in adopting these new technologies.

“It’s vital that North East businesses are not left behind as the Fourth Industrial Revolution gets underway.”
