Cintra Staff rally to support Newcastle Foodbank in honour of National Payroll Week

This week marks the annual celebration of all things payroll: National Payroll Week, where the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) encourage the industry to shine a light on those #paying the nation.

Payroll is the largest expenditure in most UK organisations and National Payroll Week aims to highlight the contribution that payroll professionals make to keep the wheels of industry turning. As well as making sure employees are paid correctly and on time, payroll is also responsible for contributing a staggering £4.4bn to the wider economy through the collection of income tax and National Insurance.

“At Cintra we take pride in the work we do, but we also take pride in the contribution we make to the wider community and usually use National Payroll Week to support those that need our help outside of payroll. We are painfully aware that, at the moment, 1 in 5 families are living below the poverty line, which is why as part of our National Payroll Week activities this year we have organised a company-wide collection to support the Newcastle Foodbank, which helps local people in crisis.”

As a large regional employer Cintra have touch points throughout the community and regularly contribute to a variety of worthy causes. The Newcastle Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. The foodbank distributes on average 106 tonnes of food per year, which equates to an enormous £300,000 worth of donations. Public contributions tend to dip during the summer months when unfortunately the demand can be greater, with families supporting children through school holidays – this was picked up by Cintra’s Head of Quality, Sheila Hughes, who rallied her colleagues, in honour of National Payroll Week, asking them to bring in at least one item each to help replenish foodbank stocks. Once again the lovely folk at Cintra went above and beyond, filling the company boardroom with foodstuff, household staples and toiletries.

Commenting on the collection, Sheila said: “I am bowled over by the generosity of my lovely colleagues. They regularly go above and beyond the call of duty and have surpassed themselves once again. Whenever we have an initiative such as this it is always so well supported. You can count on the Cintra family…and not just for top class payroll services.”

CEO of the Newcastle Foodbank, John McCorry said: “Since we opened in 2013 we have not seen such a generous donation from one source. We are very lucky that we see an incredible amount of community support, in terms of donations and people volunteering their time – over 90% of our stock comes from public donation, but this contribution is absolutely tremendous. Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful folks at Cintra.”
