Local housebuilder invests in the future with 2018 Apprenticeship Programme
As part of its 2018 Apprenticeship Programme, Barratt Developments Yorkshire East division, which includes both the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, has announced the recruitment of nine new apprentices. The five new joiners and four new bricklayers are the latest intake of apprentices to start their construction careers with the housebuilder, as part of its prestigious apprenticeship scheme.
This year sees apprentices located across the region, with Kieron Roberts working at Pembridge Park, Doncaster, Jay Hunter at The Pastures, Knaresborough, Samuel Chamberlain at Fallows Park, Beverley, and Cameron Horsley and Thomas Cockayne at Meadow Fields, Boroughbridge, all as joiners. Apprentice bricklayers include Scott Baines, who will be working at Cherry Tree Court, near Beverley, Tyla Hinton at Pembridge Park, and Ben Harrison and Reef Wilson based at Meadow Fields.
The apprentices will be attending colleges across York, Hull and Doncaster, as well as the newly introduced Accelerated Apprentice Programme for Bricklayers to learn the theory behind the practical experience they will gain on site.
Steve Mattinson, Construction Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, commented: “We are delighted to welcome nine new apprentices to our sites across Yorkshire this year. We are keen to encourage more young people into the construction industry, and offer them the opportunity to develop the necessary skills to have a long and successful career. Many of our senior team members started as apprentices so we are looking forward to watching our new recruits learn, progress and become integral members of our team.”
This year’s scheme builds on the appointment of 50 apprentices taken on since 2010, demonstrating the company’s dedication to providing jobs and pathways into the construction industry. The programme includes vacancies for trade, commercial and technical apprentices, and offers applicants the opportunity to earn whilst becoming experts in their chosen field of work. The apprentice scheme is also designed to help address the wider skills shortage currently faced by the construction industry.
Barratt Developments’ Apprenticeship Programme has been recognised by industry bodies as the best of its kind in recent years including the CITB Apprenticeship Awards, the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers, and National Apprenticeship Service’s BT Macro Employer of the Year Award.
