Local company gives light to Bring It On

A leading light manufacturer in the UK have donated their support by providing all lighting at this year’s Bring it On event, designed to inspire the next generation of engineers.

Bring it On will welcoming over 2500 children to the Beacon of Light as well as 70 businesses from all over the region. Thorn Lighting are giving light to the two-day event by suppling 30 bespoke coloured square panel fittings which will be suspended from the ceiling as well as 57 innovative linear fittings.

Thorn will be lighting the six exhibitor zones across sectors with their innovative LED lights, ensuring each zone is lit up in a different colour to help add to the atmospheric event. Pupils will be able to not only view practical demonstrations of businesses products but also take part with the interactive displays. Thorn Academy of Light Manager, Martin Thompson commented:

“As the UK’s leading number one light manufacturer since 1976 I wanted to be able to showcase in our own backyard and make that connection to education. We will also be exhibiting at the event and ensuring that we man the stand by a cross sector of our staff to help inspire, excite and educate the next generation.”

In addition to the main exhibition, which will exclusively feature North East Engineering companies, Bring It On will host the North East Regional Heat of the ‘Big Bang’ national competition which aims, amongst other things, to raise awareness of the range of STEM careers available to young people and the routes into those careers.

The ‘Big Bang Near Me’ is a programme delivered by RTC North, one of Europe’s leading technology transfer companies who work with individuals, businesses and the public sector to help create more innovative and vibrant economies. Create lead for Bring It On, Polly Westergaard, added:

“We’re delighted that Thorn have taken our vision for the event and helped make it a reality. The lights they are providing will really help to add to the pupil’s excitement of illustrating the exciting and rewarding opportunities out there for them.

“Thorn are helping us bring the classroom learning to life.”
