Acquisition turns law firm Simpson Millar into £30m fee income business

Law firm Simpson Millar has announced its acquisition of Liverpool-based EAD Solicitors.

The deal will see more than 70 staff join Simpson Millar, which will become a £30m-fee income business with over 470 employees.

The Leeds-headquartered company made the acquisition as the first step in a new £50m investment growth strategy.

Liverpool solicitor Ian Cohen will work from the firm’s new base. He was previously a senior partner at Goodmans Law in the city and is now head of personal injury and medical negligence at Simpson Millar.

CEO Greg Cox said: “The acquisition of EAD is an excellent fit with our existing business and represents a significant opportunity for Simpson Millar to extend its geographical footprint into Liverpool and the North West region.

“Simpson Millar will look to build on EAD’s strong reputation in the Liverpool market, and its close relationships with a number of large trade unions. I am delighted to welcome the new colleagues and clients to Simpson Millar.”

EAD partner Cathy Fielding, who is joining the Simpson Millar team, commented: “This is a deal that works for both businesses, reflecting our shared values of putting our clients first.

“This acquisition strengthens our legal offering to clients across the region and we are delighted to be joining Simpson Millar.”

Under its new five-year growth strategy, Simpson Millar plans to make further acquisitions and invest in marketing, technology, recruitment and staff development.
