Apprentice embarks on new career with Oscrete

Concrete additives manufacturer, Oscrete, has a new apprentice on board, who will be the first to take up a recently introduced, bespoke apprenticeship programme that offers both technical skills and formal business qualifications.

Jordan Smith, 22, who moved to Oscrete from a general apprenticeship at Christeyns will follow a two year programme providing him with experience in concrete technology and performance additives. He will also study for an HNC in Business, an Institute of Concrete Technology qualification and Business Improvement Techniques Level 3.

According to facts published by EEF in July this year*, UK manufacturing currently employs 2.7 m people and contributes 10% of the UK’s output. In Yorkshire and Humberside manufacturing makes up 9.9% of regional employment, employing 267,000 people.

Choosing an apprenticeship in manufacturing is a smart move, and with Oscrete announcing excellent half yearly results and record monthly sales for August, the firm looks set for growth. Oscrete has produced outstanding results for the past six consecutive years and is on track for another positive year as sales of admixture for concrete and performance additives outperformed expectation and are on course to deliver their 2018 growth plan.

Jordan, from Huddersfield, is a keen tennis and football player and attended All Saints College. His goal is to achieve a managerial role in sales or business development at the end of his apprenticeship.
