Expansion at Digital Catapult North East & Tees Valley

Advanced digital technology hub, Digital Catapult North East & Tees Valley (NETV) has this summer appointed a new Project Engagement Manager, as it expands its activities.

Sophie Craggs, who joins the team after spending several years delivering service design projects in the UK and Australia, will be leading on the delivery of Digital Catapult NETV’s services for North East manufacturers. These include workshops and consultancy to support companies to explore emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) and Low Powered Wide Area Networks (LPWAN).

The Digital Catapult NETV promotes the development and early adoption of technologies and bleeding edge hardware to encourage growth in the North East and Tees Valley area. With a focus on regional strengths such as automotive and games design, the team work with both large corporates and local SMEs. Offering knowledge and expertise, it aims to educate both digital and non-digital companies on the value of utilising new technologies.

Sophie joins the Digital Catapult team, Naomi Morrow (Head of Innovation) and Jenny Lang (Project Engagement Manager, Creative) and will allow Digital Catapult NETV to expand its existing offering into new sectors including manufacturing.

Speaking about her new role, Sophie said: “I’m really excited to be involved in the work that the Digital Catapult is doing. The North East has a widely celebrated manufacturing sector and it’s important that specialized support and expertise are available to encourage growth and development.

“With the arrival of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) it’s vital that industries that have traditionally been ‘non-digital’ are not left behind. I’m looking forward to working closely with organisations to show just how valuable the adoption of emerging technology can be.”

Naomi Morrow, Head of Innovation and project lead for Digital Catapult NETV said: “Sophie joins us at a very exciting time, as we expand the range of services offered through the Digital Catapult NETV.

“The manufacturing sector is one of the region’s largest employers, and it is important that we work hard to maintain that. Sophie will be responsible for engaging with the industry, both on a corporate level and with local SME’s, with the aim of helping to future-proof the sector so it continues to thrive.”
