Housebuilder’s cash donation helps growing Bridgwater Cricket Club’s push for pitch covers
An expanding Bridgwater cricket club has been given a cash boost by a regional builder to help it provide new covers for its pitches, as the club goes from strength to strength.
Bridgwater Cricket Club was chosen to receive the money by Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, based in Bristol, through its Community Champions scheme. The builder chose the group to benefit from its monthly match-funded donation.
The club runs junior cricket for boys and girls, as well as four senior men’s sides and a very rapidly growing and successful women’s team and has experienced considerable growth over the last two years.
Grant’s Officer, Mark Rose, said: “Due to the growth and expansion of the club and in particular our junior teams, we need to raise as much funds as possible, for equipment, coaching and our facilities.
“We applied to the Persimmon Community Champions fund to help with the purchase of new covers for the pitches where we play. The covers will provide a protective measure from the rain, which will accommodate more games and practices while taking the strain off our grass wickets.”
Persimmon Homes Severn Valley is currently building in the town at Kings Copse, in Kings Down, providing a collection of two, three and four-bedroom homes.
Carly Spear, sales director at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley said: “It is important to us that we support the communities in which we build. I’m really happy to hear that the funds we have donated to Bridgwater Cricket Club will help them in maintaining the great facilities they offer to the local community.”
Mark added: “Hopefully people moving into the town at Kings Copse will also bring lots of new members to the club and we cannot thank Persimmon Homes enough for their support.”
