Southampton hospice receives boost from regional housebuilder

A West End hospice has received a donation from a regional housebuilder to help towards its running costs as it continues to provide care for people with life-limiting illnesses. Countess Mountbatten Hospice charity received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes South Coast through its Community Champions scheme. Each month, the regional business donates up to £2,000 to community groups through the initiative. Countess Mountbatten House provides care for people in both its hospice and the community, helping residents within a catchment area of 460 square miles. Rachel Rawlings, Corporate Engagement and Partnerships Fundraiser, said: “We raise around £1million each year to ensure that vital Hospice services are maintained, including medical care, therapies and emotional and practical support. We also provide those little, and often not so little, extras that help make someone’s remaining days as tailored to their wishes as they can be – whether that is a daily newspaper or a pain-relieving mattress, our beautiful gardens tendered by volunteers, beds for overnight visitors or arranging a wedding or for beloved pets to visit. “It’s only with support from our community and local businesses that we can continue to provide these services, so we’re really grateful to Persimmon Homes for making us one of its Community Champions.” Matt Paine, managing director for Persimmon Homes South Coast, said: “It is clear a lot of care and thought goes into the support that Countess Mountbatten House offers to people and we are delighted to be able to help them in this way. “If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
