‘Iconic’ Victorian clock tower in West Yorkshire set for residential transformation

A 10-year project to breathe new life into one of West Yorkshire’s most recognisable Victorian buildings is heading into its final stage of construction.

Builders are converting part of the former High Royds Hospital in Menston into a collection of 42 luxury apartments and townhouses.

The final property to be transformed at the 200-acre Chevin Park scheme houses a large clock tower, along with a ballroom that will be turned into a social and events space for residents.

Works are also underway on a small cluster of new-build homes that form the last phase of development.

The site dates back to 1888. Property firm Avant Homes acquired it in 2006 and the project got underway soon after.

Alison Taylor-Shaw, Avant Homes’ sales and marketing director for Yorkshire, said: “The conversion of the iconic clock tower at Chevin Park marks a real milestone in this extensive redevelopment project.

“These will be the very last conversion properties to purchase and, once the Grade II-listed building has been carefully restored, combined superbly with the contemporary internal fittings, it will be an exceptional place to call home.”
