Project to create 500 jobs in Barnsley progresses with new industrial space

Developer CDP Marshall has completed two new speculative buildings at Capitol Park Barnsley, adding 38,000 sq ft of space to the area’s industrial stock.

Unit B, comprising 23,900 sq ft, is already let to Yorkshire conservatory business SolarFrame Holdings on a 10-year lease.

The second, Unit C, spans 15,000 sq ft and is available for purchase or lease, CDP Marshall said.

Located at Junction 37 of the M1, they form part of a 12.63-acre development site with planning in place for general industrial use, as well as for storage and distribution facilities.

It is estimated that once fully developed, the latest phase of development at Capitol Park will create around 500 jobs.

Chris Marshall, of CDP Marshall, said: “Our decision to develop these two buildings speculatively has been vindicated by the deal with SolarFrame, who signed on practical completion of Unit B.

“SolarFrame’s decision to move here is a resounding endorsement of Capitol Park, Barnsley, which is already established as one of the finest mixed-use business parks in South Yorkshire.”

CDP Marshall has worked closely with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and business support organisation Enterprising Barnsley on bringing the development forward.

Barnsley Council’s Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, Cllr Roy Miller, said: “We are delighted that SolarFrame, a growing local manufacturing business, has been able to expand within Barnsley.

“Our highly successful Property Investment Fund was established to work proactively with the private sector to provide first class commercial developments, for growing local companies and inward investors, at key locations throughout the borough and Capitol Park is a perfect example of what can be achieved by doing so.”

He added: “We look forward to continuing to support SolarFrame as they grow and create local jobs in the borough.”

The Yorkshire property team at consultancy Knight Frank is advising CDP Marshall on the scheme. SolarFrame was represented by Andrew Corbett of South Yorkshire-based chartered surveyors Smiths.
