Donation helps London youngsters attend Scottish youth theatre festival

A London youth theatre has received a cash donation to help fund its appearance at a top festival in Scotland after they beat hundreds of other productions to be chosen for the accolade. Camden Youth Theatre saw its latest production, Noise, chosen out of hundreds of entries to be one of just four productions to perform at Youth Theatre Arts Scotland’s Chrysalis Festival at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh. The festival, which showcases merging young talent, will be staged from November 15 – 17. Persimmon Homes North London has donated £1,000 to the group to help cover the cost of taking 23 young people to perform for three nights at the festival. The money was donated through the housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme, which each month sees the regional business donate up to £2,000 to two community groups. Camden Youth Theatre was established in 2016 by Camden People’s Theatre and New Diorama to provide high-quality extra -curricular arts activities to young people aged 13 to 19 years. Spokesperson Kaya Stanley-Money said: “We work with youngsters who live in and around Regents Park, which has a high rate of youth unemployment. “Since its inception, we have worked with 100 young people and produced two professional productions. We are thrilled that our latest production has been chosen for the revered Chrysalis Festival. This is an extraordinary opportunity for our young participants and we are grateful to Persimmon Homes for their support.” Damian Seddon, director-in-charge at Persimmon Homes North London, said: “The young people involved in Camden Youth Theatre are clearly incredibly talented and we are delighted to be able to support them in this venture.”
