Hole-in-one makes history at Martin-Brooks' golf day

The managing director of Sheffield roofing specialists, Martin-Brooks, ensured the firm’s annual fundraising golf day was one to remember, after bagging his first hole-in-one.

John Elmore topped off a successful event, which raised more than £2,000 for Martin-Brooks’ chosen charities, by achieving the fabled feat on the fifth hole at Renishaw Park Golf Club.

A total of 38 players took to the respected North East Derbyshire course to participate in an 18-hole Stableford competition to support six local charities, for whom Martin-Brooks has already raised thousands of pounds. They are Amy’s Retreat, Catcliffe MS Therapy Centre, Cavendish Cancer Care, Sheffield Talking News, St Vincent’s Furniture Scheme and The Rowan School.

Whilst John Elmore may have bagged himself the prize for ‘nearest the pin,’ the event was won by Paul Joynes, a retired sales executive for Foticrete. He was also a member of the victorious team, alongside Nigel Hancock of ARP and Martin-Brooks’ contracts director and golf day organiser, Dale Wright.

Dale said: “I would like to thank all of our golfing colleagues and friends who give up their time and hard-earned cash so generously each year to support our golf day. We have been working closely with our nominated charities for nearly a decade and have seen first-hand how much they need donations from local businesses. We all enjoyed a fantastic day at Renishaw, but probably none more so than John, who I’m sure will be reminding us about his hole-in-one for years to come!”
