JD Gyms to set up new branch at Barnsley Retail Park
Budget fitness firm, JD Gyms is set to open a new ‘mega-gym’ at Barnsley Retail Park early next year, after agreeing a deal with the site’s owner, Peel Retail Parks.
The agreement will see JD Gyms take approximately 26,000 square feet of space at the Twibell Street complex, which forms part of the Harborough Hill Road Retail Park.
Work is already underway on the property, with two existing units being combined to create a single space that JD Gyms plans to fill with a range of modern gym equipment ready for members to use from February.
Commenting on the company’s plans, managing director Alun Peacock said: “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing a low-cost gym with a difference to Barnsley.
“We’ll be offering exceptional fitness facilities, an unrivalled class timetable, luxury surroundings and saunas in a convenient location on a highly affordable basis.
“There is huge demand for a gym of this calibre in this area and we cannot wait to open the doors at Barnsley Retail Park.”
Leah Taylor, development manager at Peel Land and Property, agreed that the gym will be a great addition to the retail complex, which is already home to Asda, B&M, The Range and Currys.
She added: “JD Gyms is a welcome addition to the strong brands already established at the main Barnsley Retail Park. With free parking and a premium-feel, we expect the facility to be extremely popular.”
