Great Northern Hotel to open first ever martini lounge in Kings Cross

Great Northern Hotel in Kings Cross is opening the area’s first ever martini lounge.

Anthracite will occupy the first floor of the Grade II-listed Italianate Victorian hotel, where it will look onto the clock tower at nearby St Pancras Station.

The 90-cover venue has been developed by architecture firm Archer Humphryes, the practice behind the 2013 redesign of Great Northern Hotel.

Launching this autumn, the three-roomed lounge will offer a menu of martinis made using a curated selection of vodkas, gins and vermouths.

Inside Anthracite

Anthracite takes its name from the type of coal used for powering trains, in reference to the hotel’s railway heritage.

Owner-operator Jeremy Robson said: “Standing at the gateway to the newly regenerated King’s Cross, I wanted to bring something to the area that builds upon the Great Northern Hotel’s timeless elegance, whilst offering a darker edge of glamour and subversion.

“A sophisticated and alluring drinking destination, Anthracite will serve visitors and Londoners alike.”
