Middlesbrough’s Dundas Market achieves full occupancy for first time in decade

Dundas Market in Middlesbrough has achieved 100% occupancy for the first time in over a decade.

Five new tenants have signed up for space at the indoor market, part of Dundas Shopping Centre, in the last five weeks.

Newcomers include Kindrid Spirits, which offers tarot card readings; bath bomb and soaps company Gems Scentual Aromas; Baby Beautiful, selling dolls and Moses baskets; and Advanced Windows Limited, installer of replacement windows and doors.

The fifth deal was with existing tenant Dermadio Beauty Clinic, which took on a second unit to provide holistic therapies.

As a result of the influx, the market is planning to create additional retail space for local businesses.

Dundas Market manager David Harris said: “We still want to hear from prospective new tenants and welcome enquiries, but space in our vibrant market is now at a premium.

“This is excellent news when you consider all the negativity about high street retailing which has emerged over the past few months.”

He continued: “Our success shows that there is a bright future for independent traders offering value-for-money specialist, and often unique, goods and services, combined with great customer service in a supportive and friendly atmosphere.

“We have built clusters of health and wellbeing, fashion, gift, and food businesses, all of which complement each other and can work together, alongside a wide range of other traders.”

Middlesbrough-based commercial property consultancy Dodds Brown is the agent for Dundas Market and Shopping Centre.

Dodds Brown senior associate partner Richard Wilson said the market “truly is the home of the entrepreneur in Middlesbrough”, adding: “We are looking forward to a successful Christmas trading period for all our tenants”.
