Hull developer to realise ‘full potential’ of two city centre buildings

Hull-based property developer Allenby Commercial is expanding its portfolio of city centre sites with the acquisition of two prominent buildings.

The company has purchased Europa House, the gold-clad office site on the corner of Anlaby Road and Ferensway, and the former Jobcentre next to Hull Minster on South Church Side.

Allenby plans to refurbish both properties and boost Hull’s stock of Grade A office accommodation.

Europa House spans 50,000 sq ft across six floors, while the former Jobcentre will house offices of between 1,500 sq ft and 15,000 sq ft.

James Joannou, associate director at Allenby Commercial, said: “The acquisition of Europa House sees one of the most iconic buildings in Hull return to experienced, local hands with the best interests of the city in mind.

“The full potential of the site has never really been realised and in the long history of Europa House, dating back to 1975, it has never been fully occupied.”

James continued: “South Church Side is a great site next to Hull Minster and Trinity Square.

“As numerous city centre office blocks are being converted to residential apartment schemes, we remain determined to see city assets such as this remain for the purpose of job creation and employment for Hull.”

Allenby Commercial’s portfolio in the city includes creative space at the Danish Buildings on High Street and a refurbishment programme at WORX, where Arco is creating almost 200 jobs with its new customer engagement centre.
