Innovation consultancy to expand north as call for R&D tax relief support grows

Innovation consultancy Leyton is expanding its UK operation with the launch of new offices in the North and Scotland.

The London-headquartered firm has revealed plans to establish teams in Manchester and Glasgow, where it will create around 80 jobs over the next two years.

Roles available will range from graduate level to senior tax expert, technical consultant and sector specialist positions.

Leyton said it is expanding to accommodate a growing demand for help with securing R&D tax relief.

The Glasgow office will occupy a newly refurbished building in the city’s George Square and be led by David Kent, Leyton’s current head of Scotland.

In Manchester, the company will set up in the city centre. Head of Manchester Joshua Perry, who originally joined the firm as a graduate, will lead the team.

Leyton UK managing director William Garvey said: “Our expansion in Glasgow and Manchester reflects the increasing demand from companies across these regions to secure R&D funding to support and drive innovation and reach their full potential.

The Government’s R&D tax credit initiative launched in 2000 with a view to encouraging greater R&D spend and driving investment in innovation.

During the 2016/17 financial year more than £3.5bn was claimed in R&D tax relief, according to HMRC.
