Whitley Bay foodie brings gourmet burger concept to Newcastle’s £1m STACK hub
An entrepreneur from Whitley Bay is expanding his gourmet burger business.
Daniel Halpin has established a second, more permanent home in Newcastle for Beacon Burgers after launching the venture last year.
The company’s new base at the £1m STACK shipping container village will operate alongside its mobile burger truck.
Daniel got the idea for Beacon Burgers three years ago on a road trip through California. He was impressed by the state’s thriving street food scene, and in particular the quality of food available from mobile trucks.
Beacon Burgers is already a familiar fixture at some of the UK’s biggest music festivals. But with a permanent home in Newcastle, Daniel is looking to bring his concept back to the North East.
He commented: “There is a lot of strong competition for quality burgers in the region but for Beacon Burgers it’s all about the quality of the ingredients; we make our burgers from outdoor reared, grass fed Northumberland beef and we use only freshly baked artisan bread which without a doubt makes a huge difference to taste, making Beacon one of the best burgers around.
“Securing a residency at STACK is a huge step for the business and is testament to the reputation we have built up in such a short space of time. We are thrilled to be involved in such an exciting project which will prove such a huge asset for the city.”
Daniel continued: “But mobile, street food is where we began and we are committed to keeping our mobile truck on the road so will be operating the restaurant alongside an increasingly busy schedule of festivals and events around the UK.”
Daniel is planning to expand the business further with a new vintage food truck that will cater for smaller, private functions.
Speaking further, Daniel said: “The street food scene here in the region is thriving and we are delighted to be playing a key part in it.
“The launch of STACK and other similar container villages will only enhance the variety and quality of food on offer.”
The launch of Beacon Burgers at STACK follows the arrival of Japanese-inspired concept Sushi Me Rollin in the summer.
