eBay files lawsuit against Amazon over 'malicious' claims
eBay has filed a lawsuit against Amazon claiming the e-tailer used eBay’s internal messaging system to ‘poach’ sellers.
According to eBay’s lawsuit, it alleges Amazon representatives signed up for several eBay accounts and sent messages to persuade others to sell their goods via Amazon.
eBay has said this is a violation of its user agreement, and an attempt to “illegally lure eBay sellers” away from the platform.
The complaint suggests eBay sellers were asked by Amazon to speak on the phone to avoid detection.
This was made public earlier this month, after eBay had found “an unlawful and troubling scheme” from Amazon telling sellers to move away from the eBay platform.
eBay has asked Amazon for an unspecified sum of compensation. Amazon has not yet commented on the matter.
