C&W to help create City Village of 1000 homes and business space in Bradford

Bradford Council has tasked commercial real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield (C&W) with helping it create a sustainable new community neighbourhood in the centre of Bradford.

The authority is looking to build a ‘City Village’ of around 1,000 new homes and space for businesses.

The development site will incorporate Bradford’s historical Top of Town area, which recently received £2m from the Heritage Lottery Fund for its redevelopment, and include relocating the Oastler indoor market and shopping centre to a more retail-focused location at Darley Street.

C&W is creating a delivery plan for revitalising the area and improving its connectivity with the rest of the city centre.

The plan will help drive the creation of a vibrant, attractive urban village environment that features green, healthy streets and public spaces alongside its homes, independent retailers, cafes, bars and business units.

Stephen Miles, partner in Cushman & Wakefield’s Development and Planning team, said: “We are delighted to be involved in engaging in this important mandate on behalf of Bradford Council.

“We will aim to facilitate an innovative approach to both place making and funding delivery to ensure that the Council’s vision can be realised.”

Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw, the council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “In recent years our city centre has gone from strength-to-strength.

“This is the start of an exciting opportunity to take it to the next level with sustainable and healthy living combined with high quality public space that will help shape Bradford for future generations.”
