UK Plastic Manufacturer Sets Example for Environmental Responsibility in the Industry
One of the UK’s leading plastic injection, tooling and moulding companies has adopted an eco-friendly approach to its production, which has seen the business secure - and already successfully manufacture - over 300,000 units from 100% recyclable material for one of the world’s biggest household products companies.
Great Central Plastics – based in Daventry, Northamptonshire – offers its client’s eco-friendly options when ordering bespoke plastic products and, as far as the company is aware, it is one of the only manufacturers in the UK that has access to recyclable materials in any colour.
The contract of 300,000 units was awarded by Procter and Gamble (P&G) and seen the business manufacture frisbees made from 100% recycled material which was used by the global consumer goods corporation as part of a major recycling campaign to promote the importance of recycling.
Speaking about the eco-friendly services offered, Rowan Wilson, Sales Manager at Great Central Plastics said: “Environmental responsibility is very important to us and to our clients. This is why we proudly offer our environmentally friendly options when working with companies to develop their unique products. 99% of the time we can offer recycled products to be available in any colour which really makes us stand out in the marketplace as other suppliers can often only deliver in one colour.
“Having previously worked with Proctor and Gamble we were delighted to secure this additional contract – particularly when the products we have manufactured on this occasion will be used to promote such a worthy cause.”
Recycled materials used by Great Central Plastics come from internal waste leftover from previous projects the company has completed. Clients are provided with the option of using any of the eco-friendly methods offered.
And working with recyclable materials on behalf of clients is not the only environmentally friendly approach the company takes, as it has adopted a range of in-house eco policies. This includes the company using renewable energy sources to power its facilities over the last decade with solar panels. The company also reuses packaging wherever possible and has a strict recycling scheme in place for general waste which all workers in the business much adhere to.
Rowan said: “We go the extra mile to provide an environmentally positive approach to manufacturing products. Our eco-friendly practices allow us to assist companies that are consistently looking for ways to improve their green policies and become more environmentally responsible. The ban on single use plastic bags and straws shows how the plastics industry needs to improve and develop ways to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We believe with these policies in place we are leading the way for other companies to follow suit.”
Established in 1998, Great Central Plastics has provided unique plastic products for a range of uses including promotional and industrial markets. As one of the only companies in the UK who have the capabilities to offer intricate plastic tooling and moulding, the company have managed to acquire large contracts with high profile clients such as Jaguar, Petit Filous, Gordon’s Gin and McDonalds.
