Husband-and-wife team establish brewery and taproom at Newcastle’s Benfield Business Park

Anarchy Brew Co. has joined the entrepreneurial community at Benfield Business Park in Newcastle.

The craft ale company signed up for 11,000 sq ft of space at the development for a new brewery, taproom and bar.

Founded in 2012 by husband-and-wife duo Simon and Dawn Miles, Anarchy now employs a team of 11 and sells its beers throughout the UK.

The firm, which also exports worldwide, decided to move after outgrowing its former premises at Whitehouse Farm Centre in Morpeth.

Owner and director Dawn said of the new base: “Most of our employees live in Newcastle and when we saw the building, which is over 100 years old, we just fell in love with it.

“It’s full of history with lots of character and all on one level which is important for the efficiency of producing our ales.”

Benfield Business Park was once a hub for traditional engineering-focussed operations. But the scheme has undergone a transformation over the last decade and now houses a diverse raft of entrepreneurial businesses.

It is asset managed by M7 Real Estate and marketed by the industrial team at Knight Frank Newcastle.

Mark Proudlock, partner of logistics and industrial agency at Knight Frank, commented: “Benfield is diversifying rapidly from its historical base as a manufacturing and engineering park to a business, training and leisure hub offering a mix of studio, workshop and storage space appropriate for a range of uses.”
