Newcastle entrepreneur launches 'Vets on the Meowve' pet consultation service

A local veterinary nurse and entrepreneur has launched a unique mobile vets’ practice aptly named ‘Vets on the Meowve’.

Launched in 2018 by 28-year-old entrepreneur, Christine Murphy RVN, Vets on the Meowve is a consultation for pets, which can be done in the comfort of its home environment, reducing stress for both the owner and the animal.

Newcastle born CEO and founder, Christine Murphy RVN, said: “Vets on the Meowve is a service that not only helps the wellbeing of animals, but also the practical and mental wellbeing of people in the North East.

“From families with young children and elderly people who solely rely on public transport, to individuals with mental health difficulties and full-time workers who struggle for time, the mobile vets service is for anyone and everyone.

“I have been working within veterinary practices since 2007, and have been qualified as a registered veterinary nurse since 2012.

“At Vets on the Meowve, I oversee full pet MOTs, vaccinations, blood tests, and prescriptions, and I work alongside veterinary surgeon Konrad Koziński.”

Christine’s love and passion for helping animals started from a young age, and escalated when she started working for the charity People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA), where she stayed for three years.

Christine was soon promoted to become a ‘cat wellbeing nurse’, carrying out cat health and wellbeing MOTs that focused mainly on educating people about how to understand the needs and behaviour of an animal.

She added: “In my new role, I quickly understood the stress involved for cats, and their owners, to simply get to and from the vets practice.

“The demand for a stress-free alternative became very clear, which is when the idea of a mobile service sprung to mind. I knew that this idea could make a huge difference to the lives of thousands of people and pets in the region.”

Vets on the Meowve provide services for cats, dogs to rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters.

Christine initially secured funding from the Prince’s Trust, and later received an additional £20k funding from the Business Enterprise Fund.

Plans are in place to expand the business in early 2019, including additional services such as mobile surgery, extra mobile units and recruitment of nurses and vets across the region to provide further support services.
