Driving Forward With Top Tier Training
Europa Worldwide Group is planning ahead for success having recently invested in a bespoke training package for 12 of its operations team managers and supervisors.
Europa, the UK’s largest independent freight forwarder, encouraged employees to learn new skills through the programme, ranging from communication to coaching and team motivation. The training was given to specific managers and supervisors from Dartford Operations, Dartford Transport, Heathrow Airfreight and Birmingham Seafreight. Key employees were selected for which this training would be most beneficial.
Europa worked closely with leading global management training specialists, Marcus Bohn Associates, to design the tailored training and development plan. The aim was for delegates to quickly apply their learning and new skills back into the workplace, producing tangible, long-term results.
Dan Cook, Operations Director at Europa Worldwide, comments: “At Europa, we pride ourselves on our staffing opportunities – from running apprenticeship schemes to setting up training programmes and creating development opportunities – our staff are our number one priority.
“As a company we aspire to be a great place to work, which is why we prefer to have a non-corporate working environment with real family values, where staff can learn, grow and develop, staying with Europa long-term.”
The made-to-measure training programme used all of the latest techniques – such as interactive workshops to help delegates develop different skills and styles of working. At the end of the training, a personal action plan was created focusing on areas roles. Marcus Bohn Associates provides sales, management and interpersonal skills training, designed to each client’s specific brief.
Dan added “I think that all too often we, and indeed many other medium sized companies, are sometimes guilty of promoting or employing good people from positions where they have had little or no responsibility for people, to managerial roles.
“We wanted to ensure we created a specific course to assist those we have promoted or employed in this way, but maybe not given any formalised training support to help with the complexities that come with the responsibility for others. This is a ‘complex beast’ and far beyond just knowing how to do your job, or understanding European or transport operations. In my experience, it’s a complex mix of subtleties.”
Carey Haigh, Sales Director at Marcus Bohn Associates, comments: “It was great to work with the team at Europa on this unique training programme. Everything was tailored to the to the team, including exercises and case studies reflective of real-life scenarios that may be encountered in their day-to-day work.”
Europa Worldwide Group is a specialist road, air & sea, warehouse and showfreight operator employing 750 people across 14 sites in the UK, as well as Hong Kong and Belgium, and with representation in 100 countries.
