Finalists for the Bright Ideas in Health Awards 2018 announced
Innovative and forward-thinking healthcare teams and individuals from across the region have been revealed in the shortlist for this year’s Bright Ideas in Health Awards.
The brightest sparks within the NHS and academia have been recognised in the list of finalists for one of the most prestigious regional healthcare events of the year.
The Bright Ideas in Health Awards, now in its fifteenth year, celebrates the work being done by frontline healthcare staff and SMEs involved in improving healthcare in the North East and North Cumbria.
Organisers, the Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria (AHSN NENC), have been inundated with entries for the 2018 event and have now whittled these down to reveal this year’s finalists.
The shortlist includes projects being delivered by Clinical Commissioning Groups, NHS Foundation Trusts and Universities across a wide range of focus areas such as dementia, sepsis, asthma, patient safety and many more.
The competition covers five categories: Development of an Innovative Device or Technology; Service Improvement; Innovation Champion of the Year; Demonstrating an Impact upon Patient Safety and Research Impact: Improving Patient Care.
The winners, who will be announced at the Bright Ideas in Health Awards ceremony on 29 November at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton Hotel, will receive a cash prize to help them develop their ideas as well as specialist support from experts at the AHSN NENC.
Dr Nicola Wesley, Chief Operations Officer at the AHSN NENC, said: “The Bright Ideas in Health Awards showcase the work being delivered by dedicated teams in different healthcare settings across all corners of the region.
“It is a humbling and inspiring experience to hear about some of the fantastic projects and brilliant minds we have in the North East and North Cumbria. Every single innovation – whether it’s developing a new device or technology or improving the way a service is delivered – is commendable and I’d like to thank everyone who submitted entries to this year’s awards.
“Every year we continue to be astounded by the high standard of entries we receive, and this year has been no exception. The calibre, as per usual, has been outstanding. We have some truly pioneering projects as finalists and we’re looking forward to celebrating everyone’s achievements at the ceremony later this month.”
