Stagecoach Merseyside, Cheshire and South Lancashire supports the 2018 Poppy Appeal

Stagecoach Merseyside, Cheshire and South Lancashire is supporting military personnel past and present this Remembrance Sunday (11 November 2018).

As part of the transport company’s activities to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts, Stagecoach will be placing a poppy on each of its 400 buses across Merseyside, Cheshire and South Lancashire.

On Sunday, Stagecoach will also be offering free travel to armed forces personnel carrying a military ID card and to veterans wearing the veteran’s badge.

Following on from the success from last year’s Poppy Bus, created in partnership with the Royal British Legion, Stagecoach has once again teamed up with the charity to unveil a second Poppy Bus dedicated to the men and women who helped in the First World War.

The double-decker bus features the Royal British Legion’s tagline ‘Thank You’. This year’s Remembrance Sunday marks a hundred years since the end of the First World War.

In addition to the branded buses, a contribution has been made to the Royal British Legion, enabling all drivers who choose to wear a poppy to do so, and posters on the buses will encourage passengers to text to donate to the Poppy Appeal.

The two Poppy Buses can be spotted across the region throughout the remainder of the year.

Rob Jones, managing director at Stagecoach MCSL said: “Once again, we are proud to be supporting Remembrance Sunday as well as other Armed Forces events throughout the year. Through our support we hope we can send a clear message to our Armed Forces communities in that we appreciate and recognise the immense sacrifice and commitment they have made to our country over the years. “It is so important that we say our thanks to military personal, especially in the 100th anniversary since the end of the First World War. The Royal British Legion is a fantastic charity that we have supported for a number of years and we will continue to work with in the future.”

Stagecoach Group signed the Ministry of Defence’s Armed Forces Corporate Covenant in support of the Armed Forces Community in 2017. As a signatory of the Covenant, the company recognises the value serving personnel; regular and reservists, veterans and military families contribute to both the country and businesses across the country.
