Build-to-rent developer Placefirst plots 116-home scheme in Sunderland

Placefirst has submitted plans for a 116-home scheme on a former primary school site in Sunderland.

The build-to-rent developer is seeking permission for a mix of bungalows, mews homes and townhouses on the land once occupied by Easington Lane primary school in Hetton-le-Hole.

Subject to approval, the properties will range from two- to four-bed homes. Placefirst will also deliver new public realm, including a children’s play area and shared landscaped courtyard gardens.

The project will be Placefirst’s second family build-to-rent community in the North East. Its first is the The Green in Hartlepool, which is delivering 94 homes and a new urban park.

Placefirst MD David Smith-Milne said: “The proposals for Hetton-le-Hole represent our first new-build rental community in the North-East, following on from the success of The Green in Hartlepool, which has transformed over 200 empty homes into a range of family homes centred around a new park managed by our team.

“Through Placefirst’s build-to-rent approach our residents are at the forefront of everything we do – we think long-term about the places we create and do as much as we can to build homes in an attractive, professionally managed setting where our residents enjoy living.”

He continued: “More families are renting than ever before and the need for a reliable, quality offer has never been greater. Our homes offer a genuine, high-quality alternative for working families priced out of the housing market, or who prefer to the flexibility of renting.”

If the plans are approved, the firm’s in-house contractor Placefirst Construction will start work in early 2019.
