North East vegan brand ‘on a mission’ to cut global meat production with £250k funding

North East firm Hooba Foods has announced a six-figure crowdfund to unlock growth and secure supply deals with supermarkets for its vegan products.

The Darlington-based company is looking to raise £250k through Crowdcube, which will help the meat-free brand increase its UK presence through a large-scale marketing and communications campaign.

Hooba will also implement a national growth strategy for markets across the UK and Europe.

John Shepherd, who co-founded Hooba Foods with business partner Jay Croslegh, said: “The meat-free food industry is going from strength to strength in the UK and recent stats show that 44% of people in the UK have expressed an interest in eating less meat, without becoming vegetarian.

“By supporting our Crowdcube campaign you can help spread the Hooba message and help to look after our planet and our nation’s health.”

He continued: “Hooba is not just about great taste. We’re on a mission to help reduce global meat production and at the same time improve the health of the nation by producing tasty food, without the meat.

“With the world’s population increasing and concerns over environmentally sound and sustainable sources of protein, Hooba provides a great and ecologically friendly alternative to meat which still has the great taste and texture.”
