‘Sophisticated and alluring’ martini lounge opens at Grade II-listed King’s Cross hotel
Great Northern Hotel in King’s Cross has announced the opening of the area’s first martini lounge.
Located on the first floor of the Grade II-listed Italianate Victorian hotel, Anthracite is a 90-cover venue with three lounge rooms and views of the iconic St Pancras clock tower.
Its interiors were created by architecture practice Archer Humphryes, the firm behind the 2013 redesign of Great Northern Hotel.
The designs for Anthracite take inspiration from the colour and properties of the coal from which it takes its name. It draws on the hotel’s railway heritage, as anthracite was once used for fuelling trains.
Owner-operator Jeremy Robson said: “Standing at the gateway to the newly regenerated King’s Cross, I wanted to bring something to the area that builds upon the Great Northern Hotel’s timeless elegance, whilst offering a darker edge of glamour and subversion.
“A sophisticated and alluring drinking destination, Anthracite will serve visitors and Londoners alike.”
