£80k Investment in Mobile Service Clinic
Family-owned Swansway Motor Group has invested £80k in a mobile Service Clinic at its Volkswagen Van Centre in Liverpool; the dealership has taken a VW Crafter van and turned it into a travelling Service Clinic with the help of a specialist conversion by Surrey-based Winton Engineering.
The site looks after a number of large customers and fleet managers are conscious of the expensive downtime caused by vehicles being off the road. Aftersales Manager at the VW Van Centre, John Kilby, commented, “We’ve listened to what fleet customers are saying and hope that by going to their premises , instead of vice versa, we can help them minimise van downtime.”.
“We’re fortunate to be family-owned, rather than part of a plc, it means we get the opportunity to try out initiatives like this; the directors have been hugely supportive, they like innovative suggestions and they’re backed this one to the tune of £80k”, added John.
The idea is that with its array of on-board tools including Volkswagen Diagnostic computers and test equipment, the mobile Service Clinic allows a wide range of work to be undertaken on-site instead of in the workshop. Swansway Motor Group director, Peter Smyth, added, “It’s a simple idea; now we need to see if customers like it and make use of it to cut downtime”.
