It’s Go, Go, Go for Jo
Once the running bug grabs you, it really grabs you and Jo Bailey from Congleton, is proof of that. She started running in 2014, but sustained a bit of a horror injury in her very first race. Out of action for just over a year, Jo started again in 2015 and has never looked back.
This year she’s competed in four half-marathons, raising almost £1,000 for Ruby’s Fund, British Heart Foundation and the Children’s Society. She’s just completed the Conwy half-marathon, after promising to run with first time half marathon runner Gill Horne.
By day Jo is Group Financial Controller for family-owned Swansway Motor Group, by night and at weekends she clocks up the miles, both solo, with husband Dave and as a member of Biddulph Running Club.
A delighted Jo explained, “When I first started running I never expected to find it almost taking over my life, but I’m afraid it has a little bit and it felt so good to get Gill across that finish line, I knew she had it in her, and it was an a amazing feeling to cross that line together”.
“More importantly we’ve raised much needed funds for the Children’s Society, even by the governments own statistics 4.1 million children are now living in poverty in the UK. That brings with it many problems, such as mental health issues, exploitation by adults, hunger and difficult concentrating in school.”
“The Children’s Society supports these vulnerable children and their families and I’m so please that I’ve been able to help them, even though it’s only in a small way; the work they do is amazing”, added Jo.
