The Brink Marks Alcohol Awareness Week With Merseyside Candleight Vigil
The Brink is set to host the eleventh annual Merseyside Candlelight Vigil and Remembrance Evening on November 30 to remember those who have lost their lives to addiction.
On the evening, the Parr Street venue owned by national charity Action on Addiction, will become a refuge for the general public and the recovery community alike to gather and remember those lost to addiction and alcoholism.
The event follows Alcohol Awareness Week (November 19-25), whereby The Brink will be encouraging the community to consider the wider impact of alcohol abuse on society.
General Manager at The Brink Carl Bell said: “Alcohol Awareness Week is incredibly poignant for everyone at The Brink and Action on Addiction as it really captures everything that we do as an organisation. We want people to take note and understand that alcohol addiction is a life-altering disease but there are ways to prevent, manage and overcome it with the right support. We are asking people to really consider the impact that it can have on individuals, their families and wider society and reflect on the ways in which we can implement real change.
“To remember those that lost their lives to addiction, we will once again host the Merseyside Candlelight Vigil and Remembrance Event. This annual gathering is intended to comfort and support those families that have lost someone to alcoholism or drug addiction by giving them a platform to share personal reflections, readings and testimonies.”
As Liverpool’s first and only dry bar, The Brink, is a pivotal place for those affected by addiction and offers a safe and stigma-free environment that plays an important role within the local community – a fitting venue for the Candlelight Vigil to take place.
Carl added: “Although this event is about remembering those that lost their battles with addiction, we hope that Alcohol Awareness Week will encourage people to look at the bigger picture and know that there are stories of hope that have the power to inspire others and potentially change lives for the better. Our doors are always open for anyone who would like to seek advice, support or simply come in for a cup of tea and a chat.”
