Cash boost for Team Santa

As the countdown begins to Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s hugely successful Santa’s Grotto weekend at Northumberlandia in December, the wildlife charity is delighted to have received an early Christmas present from Asda Cramlington.

Now in its fourth year, the visits by the red suited gentleman have proved so popular, he has been persuaded to land his sleigh next to the Lady of the North a day earlier on the Friday (14th).

Nestled amongst the woodland, the Northumberlandia team decided the grotto area needed a magical makeover so approached the Asda superstore in Cramlington for help towards festive lighting and decorations, plus materials for arts and crafts activities.

This week, Christmas came early, when Lynette Friend, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Events Coordinator was presented with a cheque for £275 by Jackie Burt, Asda Community Champion at the Manor Walks superstore.

Every year, millions of children put carrots out for the reindeer and mince pies and drinks for Santa, but all too often, the hardworking elves are totally forgotten. Not this year, as Jackie (who obviously believes in Santa!) has rustled up several boxes of mince pies, again courtesy of Asda, to keep the elves ‘fuelled’ over the course of the weekend.

Accepting the cheque, Lynette Friend said: “Asda Cramlington is a great supporter of our work at Northumberlandia, having previously donated Easter eggs as prizes for our events with young people. The £275 grant is really appreciated and will help make the Grotto weekend even more magical for children and adults alike.”
