Christmas comes early thanks to Amble shoppers

Generous shoppers in Amble have raised a whopping £5,819.00 for Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre via the Co-op Members Local Community Fund (LCF).

Over the course of the past year (October 2017 - October 2018), each time a LCF Member shopped in the Co-op Food and Funeralcare store on Queen Street branch in Amble, 1% of what they spent was donated to a charity of their choice, with the money raised together with money from carrier bag sales helping local projects. Since September 2016, more than £20 million has been raised nationally.

Speaking about the money raised for the Wildlife Discovery Centre, Duncan Hutt, Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Head of Living Landscapes and Conservation said: “The local community has always supported our work on Druridge Bay and the money raised just goes to prove that when it comes to generosity, you can’t beat the people of Northumberland.

“This wonderful cash boost will keep the centre and the reserve it nestles in looking marvellous, so come on everybody, why not come along and see what you have helped to support.”

Built almost entirely by 112 volunteers over 26,000 hours, following an arson attack on the old building 7 years ago, the eco-friendly centre has scooped a number of major awards including, only last week, a bronze North East England Tourism Award for the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year.
