Mark Robertson, Ryden

Commercial property consultancy Ryden has appointed Dr Mark Robertson as its new managing partner.

Mark is taking over the role from Bill Duguid, who will become chairman after six years at the helm.

Having worked at Ryden since 1993, Mark was made a partner in 2000 and became head of the company’s planning and research arm in 2004. He is currently regional managing partner at Ryden’s office in Edinburgh.

Dr Mark Robertson said: “This is a fantastic time to be taking over as managing partner of Ryden.

“I’m excited by the progress we are making on the expansion of our English offices and our plans to launch a new service line which will be announced shortly.”

Anindya Ghose, Tamoco

Proximity technology startup Tamoco has appointed American academic Anindya Ghose to its advisory board.

As the Heinz Riehl chair professor of business at New York University’s Leonard N Stern School of Business, Anindya’s primary research focuses on monetising the digital economy through data science and business analytics. He received his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business.

Anindya has consulted for a number of global tech companies, including Apple, Samsung, Facebook and Snapchat.

His new role with Tamoco will see him advising the firm on the use of data science techniques and large-scale field experiments to monetise its real-time location and contextual data on users.

The Tamoco advisory board is chaired by Victor Chu, CEO and chairman of Hong Kong-based First Eastern Investment Group.

Gary Turner, Enterprise Nation

Business support group Enterprise Nation has appointed the co-founder of software firm Xero to its board as an advisor.

Gary Turner, managing director of the New Zealand-headquartered company, is joining the Enterprise Nation board this month to help the network develop its growth strategy.

He has grown Xero’s UK cloud accounting business from a three-person team with annual revenues of £50k to a £40m-turnover operation with more than 300 employees.

Enterprise Nation founder Emma Jones said: “I’m delighted Gary has agreed to lend us his talent and experience as we move towards our next stage of growth to deliver accessible advice, support and acceleration on demand to the UK’s small business community.

“Gary has transformed Xero into a cloud accounting powerhouse in the UK and his input will be invaluable. His appointment marks another big step in our journey.”

Gary commented: “My own passion for helping small businesses aligns closely with Emma’s vision for Enterprise Nation and so I’m excited to be joining the board in an advisory capacity.”
