Tony Celebrates over 40 Award-Winning Years in Civil Engineering

Tony O’Toole, Projects Manager with The Clancy Group PLC, has received a lifetime achievement award from the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (Southern) after 44 years of high-level service to the industry.

Tony, from Luton, was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Industry Award at a special ceremony in London in recognition of his skill and success across numerous projects and his contribution as a role model for young people starting out in civil engineering.

During his career, Tony has worked on incredibly diverse projects, from large utilities schemes and rail embankment stabilisation works to tunnelling and micro tunnelling…always expertly delivered. Even as he approaches retirement, he remains one of the company’s ‘go to’ people when a difficult engineering challenge arises.

He was thrilled to win the award and commented: “Winning the award was a complete surprise. This is a great industry and I would urge any young person considering their career options to take a close look at civil engineering. Every day is different and there will be challenges to overcome, but along with the people you will meet and the career-related rewards, you will also leave a footprint for the future with every project you complete.”

David Allen, CECA (Southern) Executive Director, congratulated Tony on his award. “Tony epitomises everything that is good about our profession. He is one of the ‘unsung heroes’ within the civil engineering industry, who works hard to get things done and make things work without seeking the limelight. His personal commitment and contribution to our industry over the last 44 years has been exemplary.”

Tony received his accolade at the CECA presentation event at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.
