Barclays customers can now 'decline' certain spending habits with mobile banking
Mobile banking users are now able to stop their spending habits on their debit cards.
Barclays has become one of the very first high street banks to allow its customers to ‘switch off’ particular spending types on their cards.
The idea is to help those vulnerable and prone to dangerous spending habits - like gambling - take back much needed control of their money.
Most kind of spending can be blocked, including from the likes of supermarkets, restaurants, pubs and petrol stations. This follows on from pressure on banks to reduce the number of people going into debt through ‘easy’ payments on debit cards.
It is also possible to phone the bank, or go into a branch.
As of now, only debit card users can apply the function to their spending, however credit card users should be able to start in the near future.
