Latest 100-bed hotel in works for new eco-resort in Doncaster

Plans to develop a new 104-bedroom four-star hotel at the UK’s first eco-resort have been given the green light.

The hotel development at Tyram Lakes in Doncaster aims to create over 50 jobs and form the cornerstone of the grand design for the 65-acre site which includes over 50 eco-lodges.

Doncaster Council’s planning committee approved the £20m proposals yesterday (December 11), and planning and development consultancy Lichfields managed the planning process on behalf of the Leeds-based Rothgen Group.

Jonathan Standen, planning director at Lichfields’ Leeds city centre office, said: “The Tyram Lakes Hotel, Spa & Resort is the first development of its type in the UK.

“The hotel is crucial to the evolution of the wider scheme and we are delighted to secure the necessary planning approval for our clients the Rothgen Group.

“The boutique hotel will be at the heart of the resort, which enjoys unspoilt woodlands and landscapes making it the ideal location for this eco-resort.”

The hotel will provide 104 bedrooms, together with conference, wedding, dining and spa facilities.

Car parking will be provided for 197 vehicles with 16 electric charging points, 12 disabled parking spaces, 10 motorcycle and 36 cycle bays.

Work is currently underway on the first stage of the wider development with the creation of 50 floating eco-lodges on the largest of the four lakes at the resort.

Over 150 people will be employed during the construction phase at the site, which is located 13 kms east of Doncaster at Lindholme. It is not yet known when building work will begin. The architect on the scheme is London based BACA Architects.

Mr Standen added: “The concept is unique; a development offering luxury hotel accommodation with innovative design underpinned by a complementary and sustainable approach to construction, operation and renewable resources all set in a high quality, and ecologically rich setting.”
