Restaurateur duo to open Tuscan eatery in Brixton
A new restaurant is bringing a taste of Tuscany to Brixton when it launches in the new year.
Alice Staple and Dickie Bielenberg are the minds behind Maremma, an Italian eatery opening on the corner of Brixton Water Lane in February.
Occupying the former Montego Inn, the restaurant will have windows running along two sides of its dining space to boost natural lighting. The basement level will serve as a wine cellar and private dining room.
Maremma’s interiors will feature the colours of the eponymous coastal region in Italy, known for its terracotta towns and green hills with cypress, pine and poplar trees.

Alice and Dickie, a Brixton resident of nearly 50 years, split their time between South London and his home in Campiglia Marittima, a community in the Maremma.
Founder Dickie said: “I’ve always dreamed about bringing a bit of the Maremma to Brixton. After countless visits, Alice and I have a shared love for this region, and were won over by its fine produce, fine wine and charm.
“We have been lucky to have met some wonderful people there, some of which are now going to be our suppliers.”
Alice, a long-standing private chef, commented: “We’ve sourced the very best produce and lesser known wines, and I can’t wait to showcase these in our little slice of the Maremma in Brixton.”
