WITHAM HOUSEBUILDER TRAINEE WINS NATIONAL AWARD

A 22-year-old quantity surveyor from Witham has been named winner in a national housebuilder’s award scheme.

Assistant quantity surveyor, Ben Cherrill, from Persimmon Homes Essex, has been recognised by the business with a national Young Achiever award presented at a ceremony at the York head office.

Ben, who was named Young Business Trainee of the year, joined Persimmon as a trainee quantity surveyor in 2014, age 18, after deciding that the construction industry was where his future lay.

The ambitious youngster has built solid foundations for his future career and now manages multiple developments across the region.

He said: “The Persimmon team has been very supportive throughout my training and development. I am delighted to have received this recognition.

“I finished sixth form and wasn’t sure which career path I wanted to go down. After working in a supermarket, I saw the advert for a quantity surveyor in the local paper and jumped at the chance – four years later and I am developing well into a career for life.

“My progression just shows the career opportunities working for a large organisation such as Persimmon Homes can present for young people.”

The Young Achievers award programme was launched by Persimmon Homes in 2014 to showcase its young talent who have gone above and beyond to succeed in their role.

Regional managing director Phil Standen said: “Ben is a deserving recipient of our national Young Business Achiever award and we are very proud of his achievements.

“He has been a rising star since joining Persimmon and has flourished into a solid surveyor. He was also the surveyor who had responsibility for the development of our new regional office in Witham.

“He is recognised by all staff both in the office and on site as someone who not only knows his business but is willing to assist others to get the job done. I know he will rapidly progress further in his career at Persimmon and will be a future business leader.”
