Boundless wins Best Employer at Best Business Awards
Boundless, the events and experiences club for public sector workers, scooped the Best Employer Award at the 2018 Best Business Awards as well as the Best Health and Safety Award.
Boundless was founded as the Civil Service Motoring Association (CSMA) 95 years ago. It is now the UK’s largest membership club for public sector and civil service workers, offering them experiences, discounts and deals to inspire them to make the most of their free time. It also owns and operates several leisure retreats across the UK.
The Brighton-based organisation was commended by a panel of expert independent judges for the way it has put its people at the heart of its cultural transformation over the last four years.
Carl Fillery, CEO of Boundless, said: “It’s an honour to receive these awards. Four years ago, we embarked on a journey of cultural transformation with the aim of creating a work environment that was more human, nurturing and caring.
“With our people at the very heart of this process we have doubled employee engagement. I’m so proud of our team and the outstanding contribution they have made to our organisation.“
The Best Business Awards are one of the UK’s highest profile awards, attracting a wide range of entries from across all sectors from large international PLCs and public sector organisations to dynamic and innovative SMEs.
Sir Michael Lockett, chairman of the judges, praised Boundless’ achievements, saying: “Boundless has seen startling results after undergoing a cultural transformation and becoming people focused. By creating a work environment that encourages people to do their best, profits, staff engagement, new memberships and customer retention have soared to new highs.
“The most effective changes are to communicate the company’s strategy to staff and encourage them to reach their full potential. The restructuring and empowerment of staff has revitalised Boundless and given it a new lease of life.“
Also taking home the Health and Safety Award, Boundless was commended for introducing a new level professionalism to its health and safety management system by bringing it inhouse after outsourcing it for many years. With multiple activity and leisure sites, it now has checks and control measures in place tailored to each property and all staff are fully trained in health and safety.
Sir Michael Lockett added: “Boundless has placed health and safety at the heart of the organisation at directorship level and taken exactly the right action to protect the safety of staff and clients in a leisure and activity environment.“
